Survey Highlights Trends and Best Practices Around the Oversight of Electronic Communications in the Financial Services Industry

PORTLAND, Ore., February 27, 2017 – Smarsh the leading provider of cloud-based information archiving solutions for compliance, e-discovery and risk management, is conducting its seventh annual survey of compliance professionals in the financial services industry on the retention and oversight of electronic communications, including email, social media, instant messages and SMS/text messages. Findings from the Smarsh survey will shed light on the compliance community’s developing role, challenges, and best practices in meeting the electronic recordkeeping, supervision and data protection obligations of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and other global regulators.

Financial services firms are required to conduct regular supervision of communications, yet compliance teams must do this while dealing with an ever-widening set of content from social media channels, collaboration platforms, text messages and more. Firms often face difficulties during the quest to correctly identify and mitigate compliance risks in electronic communications. This year’s survey will examine how compliance leaders manage their oversight processes and meet supervision challenges.

Compliance professionals can take the survey at www.smarsh.com/2017compliancesurvey. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and all answers remain anonymous and analyzed in aggregate. For each qualified registrant, Smarsh will make a charitable contribution via Smarsh Full Circle, the company’s community service initiative.

A report of the key findings from the survey will be issued by Smarsh in Spring 2017. For more information about Smarsh and The Archiving Platform, visit www.smarsh.com.
