The Smarsh Advantage

Data Security & Data Integrity

Data security and data integrity are essential to the Smarsh operation. Simply put, our business depends on them. Using a combination of hardware, software, and advanced procedures, Smarsh strives to ensure all aspects of its message archiving services are secure and that there will be no unauthorized access to messages containing your company's (and your clients') private information.

Multiple safeguards are in place to limit physical access to Smarsh’s geographically-dispersed datacenters. Meanwhile, a number of steps have been taken to shield data as well, including:

  • Redundant clustered spam and multi-layered virus appliances eliminate harmful emails at the gateway.
  • 128-bit or 256-bit SSL & TLS encryption with unique user IDs and password protection.
  • Outbound content filtering.
  • All systems are protected by multi-tiered firewalls.
  • Servers are hosted on completely distinct logical networks.
  • Intricate login policy protects against dictionary attacks and phishing or guessing attacks.
  • All logins are recorded, allowing for review of the failed attempts and protection against attacks both within and outside of the company.
  • Custom applications and systems proactively monitor each customer’s archive, regardless of whether Smarsh provides email hosting or not.  Systems notify our technical staff of any potential problems before they occur.
  • All archived media is password-protected prior to electronic or physical delivery.
