Congratulations to Smarsh Founder and Chairman Steve Marsh on his selection as the Technology Association of Oregon’s (TAO) 2018 Sam Blackman Award winner (technology executive of the year).

Marsh was honored at the Oregon Technology Awards ceremony on Thursday night in Portland. Now in its 34^th year, the Oregon Technology Awards celebrate excellence and achievement within the region’s vibrant technology community.

Marsh’s leadership of Smarsh, community involvement and role as a mentor and investor in up-and-coming startups led to his selection for the prestigious award.

Marsh founded Smarsh, Inc. in 2001, and has led the Portland-based company through nearly two decades of sustained, aggressive and profitable growth. Under Marsh’s leadership, Smarsh has evolved from an email archiving provider for the financial services industry into a worldwide leader in retention and oversight solutions across the digital communications spectrum (including social media, IM/collaboration, mobile/text, websites and more). In 2018, Smarsh combined with Actiance to help organizations of all sizes throughout the world meet their recordkeeping, supervision and e-discovery obligations.

An active leader and mentor within Oregon’s rapidly growing technology industry, Marsh serves as a board member of the TAO, an organization committed to creating and uniting a world-class innovation economy in Oregon and beyond. In addition, Steve was named the 2014 FTF News Fintech Person of the Year, is a previous Portland Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree and was previously a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Pacific Northwest.

The Sam Blackman Award is named for the AWS Elemental founder and 2015 Technology Executive of the Year. A luminary in the Portland technology community, Blackman passed away last year leaving an enduring impact and legacy.
