As more financial service organizations are moving to Microsoft Office 365 and adopting Microsoft Teams as their standard collaboration tool, the Smarsh Capture development team has been making enhancements to keep pace with business adoption as well as Microsoft’s enhanced feature development.

Capture already indexes all electronic data from various Microsoft channels including Teams, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business Online and Yammer.  As part of our ongoing commitment to be the comprehensive compliance solution for O365, we have made the following enhancements:

Updates to MS Teams and SharePoint Online

On top of contextual capture of Teams data – including file, emojis and metadata – we have further scaled our solution to support higher user volume. We currently support accounts with as many as 80,000 users, with planned support for accounts with more than 160,000 users.

One of the collaborative aspects of Teams is the ability to share files within channels and chats.  Because Teams allows online editing to files, users will want the ability to preserve revision history to keep tabs on what changed, and who changed it. With Capture, we have introduced the ability to capture the version history, appending it to the data that is sent to your archive.

We also provide compliance-based policy capabilities in Teams, with remediation and redaction tools within a Teams chat environment.  Customers can ensure compliance by using supervision tools to flag communications in the event policy violations occur.

Capture also extends to SharePoint Online users, where we have scaled our solution to seamlessly support up to 80,000 users, with support for higher user counts in the works.

Similar to Teams, the version history information of files in SharePoint Online is captured and sent to the archive, ensuring a complete and proper record of all files to meet compliance needs. To find out more about our support for Microsoft Office 365, see our O365 Platform Page.

All captured content can be sent seamlessly to the Smarsh Enterprise Archive—a secure, context-aware data store—for enhanced supervision and e-discovery. Alternatively, content can be sent to any existing archive, application or data lake.

We partner closely with Microsoft to continuously enhance capture and archive capabilities, with support for the Azure public cloud infrastructure platform soon.
